Of course, I'm talking about the 80's. That's the golf score, not the decade. For the first time in my life I've been shooting in the 80's very regularly. In fact, if I was to shoot 90 my next time out I'd be quite disappointed.
My game is improving, which is good -- in previous years I was regularly shooting around 95. But for some reason I still can't seem to have a round without at least a couple 7's and 8's on the card. When I was shooting 95, I always said that I would love to be able to get into the 80's on a regular basis, and that would make me happy. Well, I'm there now, and I'm not happy. That's not to say I'm pissed off about it, but maybe I should say that I'm not satisfied, instead of "happy." I know I could shave off a few more strokes here and there... where the 87 becomes an 83, and then the 83 becomes a 79. My brother-in-law, whose ability is about the same as mine, recently shot a 74 -- and it's not as though he was dropping them in from the fairway or sinking 60-foot putts every hole. So I know that the low scores are there for the taking. Maybe a little more luck, maybe a little (or a lot) more practice.
